Rehabilitation of the training school The Ministry of Railway Development through the Ghana Railway Company Limited is rehabilitating the Ghana Railway Training Institute. The aim of the rehabilitation is to upgrade the institution into a fully fledged university. The Ghana Railway Company Limited will partner the University of Mines in Tarkwa to run engineering courses for its workers and the general public who are interested in attaining engineering knowledge in their field. The project is being done by Rolider, an Israeli construction firm. To this effect, the monitoring team of the government, made up of personnel from the ministry of finance, Ministry of Railway Development, audit service and procurement authority paid a visit to the project site to get first hand information of ongoing works at the site. The Construction Manager, Eli Ankava, who took the monitoring team around, briefed the team of the progress of work. He assured the team of finishing on time but pleaded with the government to make sure logistics for the project are made available on time for him to complete the project as planned. The Ghana Railway Company Limited, located at Ketan in Sekondi, was constructed in 1990 from a World Bank loan to upgrade the skills of officers of the Company. The institution had fully furnished Administration block, Dormitories, Dinning hall/kitchen, Auditorium and classroom blocks. It run courses in Civil/Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Signal and Telecommunications Engineering, Traffic and Administration. Due to lack of funds and other infrastructural challenges, the institution had to be closed down. March 26, 2018
