Ministry for Railway Development and UMaT signs Memorandum of Understanding The Ministry for Railway Development and the George Grant University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding which will lead to development of, amongst others, tertiary certificates awarding railway programmes under the joint auspices of the Ministry for Railway Development and the George Grant University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), which will eventually lead to the establishment of a University of The Railways The Vice Chancellor of the George Grant University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Prof. J.S.Y Kuma said that the Railway Central Training Institute is poised to become the only Railway University in West Africa. He also elaborated on the importance of the Railway in the growth of the economy in Ghana and some of the recent achievements of the George Grant University of Mines and Technology in the academic world. The Minister for Railway Development. Hon. Joe Ghartey in his speech said that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding was a significant milestone in the development of the railways sector in Ghana and that this Memorandum of Understanding between Ministry for Railway Development and George Grant University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) will go a long way to transform the Railway Central Training Institute in the a fully fledge University in the future. He again said that the Memorandum of Understanding will pave way for the development of a Railway curriculum which will eventually lead to the awarding of tertiary certificates under the joint auspices of the Ministry for Railway Development and the George Grant University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) which will lead to the establishment of a University of Railway and Infrastructural Development. Nana Kobina Nketsia (V) Paramount chief for the Essikado Traditional area in his speech said that the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Ministry for Railway Development and the George Grant University of Mines and Technology was history in the making and that he foresee a fully-fledged Railway University in the future.
